2-Feb-1931 - 17-Feb-2024

Beloved husband, father and grandfather, George passed away at age 93 in the Dartmouth General Hospital on February 17th.

Born at home, George lived in Dartmouth his entire life and was a proud Dartmouthian. He started work at MT&T in 1949 and enjoyed a 37-year career in telecommunications. In his spare time, George was an enthusiastic ham radio operator, call sign VE1BLX.

He enjoyed travelling, camping throughout Canada and the USA in his early years. After retirement, he and his wife Sheila enjoyed spending winters in Florida, as well as taking a few cruises to far-off places. George was a wonderful father to Karen, Keith and Erica. He was a proud and doting grandfather to Keegan, Liam and Charlotte. In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, he leaves behind his much-loved sister, Shirley Beaver, brother-in-law Stewart Marr, sister-in-law Gale Davison (Bud), and brother-in-law David Carroll (Claudette), as well as several nieces and nephews.

George was pre-deceased by parents George and Jean (Gladwin) Colter, sister Betty Marr, and brother-in-law Bob Beaver. The family would like to thank Dr John Banks, Dr T’ien, Dr Shih and NP Javier Ordonez for their excellent care of George over the years. As well, we want to say a special thank you to the nurses and staff in 3East of the Dartmouth General Hospital who went above and beyond for George and his family during his recent care. A funeral service was held at Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main Street, on Saturday, February 24th at 2 p.m., followed by a reception.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the DGH or Souls Harbour would be greatly appreciated.
