It is with regret we to announce the passing of Richard “Dick” Grantham call sign: VE1AI, Dick peacefully became a silent key in the early morning of March 20th.
A respected member of the HAM community on both sides of the harbor, he was first licensed in 1960 while attending High School in grade 10 at the age of 15 years.
Dick later went on to persue a career in Communications and worked on everything from VLF to satellites. Dick was very instrumental in developing the cellular service here in Nova Scotia, and finished his working years as a business owner / operator providing security systems, satellite communications and also Amateur Radio equipment.
Dick is survived by his wife,2 daughters, and 5 grandchildren. They have requested privacy as they grieve their loss and make the required arrangements.
Dick had a passion for DX’ing and contesting and “rag chewing” with CW is as his most common mode. Dick had been to Sable Island, St. Paul's Island off the coast of Nova Scotia on several occasions and had operated as part of the C51A team in The Gambia in 1993, and as /6Y5 and vising some of the IOTA Islands here on the east coast of Canada.
Update Mar 21 : Dick's funeral is set for this coming Monday , March 25th , at 10 AM at Atlantic Memorial Gardens in Dartmouth .
