Hamclock End of Life

Monday, 09 February 2026 23:49

Hamclock has reached its End of Life due to the untimely death of its creator.

HamClock (version 4.22), a popular, primarily single-developer software for amateur radio, has reached its end-of-life following the passing of creator Elwood Downey (WB0OEW) in January 2026. The software and its backend data services are scheduled to cease functioning in June 2026

Key Details Regarding End of Life (EOL):

  • Final Version: Version 4.22 is the last official release.
  • Shutdown Date: All installations are expected to stop working in June 2026 due to the reliance on backend servers, notes the RadioReference.com Forums.
  • Impact: The software is used on Inovato Quadra units, Raspberry Pis, and other Linux/Windows systems.

Alternatives and Future Solutions:

  • OpenHamClock: A new open-source, web-based alternative is being developed by Chris Hetherington (K0CJH), which can be run via web browser or hosted locally.
  • GlanceRF: Another community-driven alternative for displaying similar information.
  • Web-Based Tools: Various online services are being highlighted to replace the propagation and space weather features, say QSL.net.

Users are encouraged to look into these alternatives before the June 2026 cutoff, says this YouTube video
